Whether you are using Audrey Hepburn or Effy Stonem as your makeup inspiration, a smokey eye is a classic and easy way to create a dramatic look.
Step 1: Prepare your peepers by using primer all over your lid. Then apply some concealer to your eyes after using foundation on your face because you’ll need something for the eye shadow and liner to stick to.
Step 2: Start with your eyeliner (usually dark brown or black for the smokey eye look) making a line from the middle of your eyes out to the far corners if you have smaller eyes, or sweeping from centre corner to outside corner along the whole lash line if you have larger eyes.
Step 3: Smudge this line with your finger, sponge smudger or q-tip to soften the look. Apply some lighter coloured shadow to the entire lid (light grey, silver, brown, caramel or gold are all great colours for this look) and then use another shade (a darker one complimentary to your base colour) in the deepest part of your eye under your brow-bone and along the top and bottom lash-lines. Make sure you blend these two colours really well so it doesn’t look clumsy.
Note: If you would like to make your eyes appear larger or want a more dramatic effect, use a light coloured shadow in the “inner v’s” of your eyes or “wing” the eyeliner so it sweeps out to your temples.
Step 4: Apply lashings of Mascara to eyelashes and a slick of nude/peach gloss (don’t go for bold lips with smokey eyes, it will look far too heavy).
