Perfect at-home Manicure

17 November 2010 by Marzie in Beauty, Homepage

We can’t all have the amazing nails that Katy Perry is always sporting but we can all look after our digits and get a perfect manicure at home. Here are the steps to getting your nails into tiptop shape for your school formal.

1. Firstly, remove all traces of nail polish from nails. You want to start with a completely clean canvas.

2. Shape nails with a nail file or emery board. Make sure you only run the board in one direction and avoid the “sawing” motion. That could damage your nails.

3. Apply cuticle cream or almond oil to cuticles and gently push them back using a cotton bud. Do not cut cuticles! Instead, gently massage the area using circular
movements.

4. Moisturise with hand lotion and massage palms, fingers and nail bed to improve circulation.

5. Rub some more nail polish remover over nails to make sure they are clean and dry with no sticky residue for the moisturiser. Dry nails make longer lasting
manicures.

6. Apply your base coast and wait till completely dry before applying your first coat of coloured nail polish.

7. Wait for each layer to dry in between coats and keep each layer thin to avoid polish bubbling up.

8. Admire your gorgeous digits and show off your perfect D.I.Y Mani!
