Theme Ideas: Winter Wonderland

ww.gif

A winter wonderland is a timeless theme that can be varied in a number of ways.

Your predominant colours for the night will be silver and white and snowflakes will be your ideal accessory. Fairylights will also add a magical touch to the evening (if you are using your own lights you will have to check with your venue regarding safety regulations. Many venues will require that the lights have an electrical tag, so you may not be allowed to use your own lights, you may have to hire them from a prop company). Be careful not to use too many Christmas decorations, you want your theme to be a winter wonderland, not a Christmas party.

Create a spectacular entrance using Norfolk Island pine trees. If budget allows, use three trees of differing heights by each door. These can be hired from a plant hire company, or source Christmas trees. Lightly spray with artificial snow and light with fairy lights. Around the base use white wadding and cover with artificial Magic Snow*. Run rope lighting under the snow to illuminate it or add Balloominator lights*. Add some pine cones to the snow for effect. Have smoke machines or dry ice blowing a chilly icy wind as guests enter.

  • If budget permits, continue the trees into the main room.
  • Purchase twisted willow from your local flower market. Allow it to dry out, spray white or silver and add some silver glitter. These can be used in large bunches around the room. Add white fairy lights for a really magical feel. White wadding and Magic Snow can be added to the bases. White reindeer Christmas sculptures can add to the winter feeling (check with your venue regarding electrical certification requirements).
  • Foil star shaped balloons, in various sizes, filled with helium. Tie to fishing line at different and weights and dot around the room.
  • Use large bunches of balloons with snowflake prints.
  • Create a winter wonderland back drop for official photographs.
  • Hang silver tinsel curtains from the ceiling or walls.
  • Have a ceiling scatter of white and silver balloons over the dance floor with silver ribbons. Add silver star or snowflake cutouts to the ends of the ribbons
