Going Green with Formal Dresses

05 August 2010 by Marzie in Fashion, Latest

Considering that the average Aussie girl attends two or more formals in grade 12 and most are forking out the cash each time they need another gown to wear, being able to do a dress swap with a friend or alter an old formal dress is a much more cost effective way to survive the expensive formal season.

Of course, for your own formal you will want to have your very own perfect dress, but if you have been invited to another school’s formal as a date it’s a cool idea to reuse a dress and mix it up with some killer heels and hot accessories. And plus, if you don’t spend a fortune on a new gown for each formal you might be able to splash out on some ah-mah-zing designer heels!

So, if you are keen on getting a dress that you can wear again but you’re not sure how you’ll be able to get away with * gasp * wearing the same thing twice (!) here are some hints on how you can do JUST THAT:

  1. Alter your dress. Get your granny or Mum or crafty friend to help you out if sewing isn’t your forte. By taking the hem up or changing the dress into a one shoulder you can create really different looks.
  2. Accessorise. A big flower here or a chunky cuff there can make a big difference in disguising an old dress. Team a simple black dress with pearls and a floral headband for a ladylike look or take the same dress add chunky black heels and studded clutch for a rock chick model-off-duty style.
