Looking after your formal garments before and after the event is important -especially if you have invested in a beautiful gown you'll want to keep forever. There are some things to think about when buying a formal gown that will make looking after the garment easier.
If the dress has any beading or intricate detailing it can be harder to look after. While a dress with this kind of detail will look amazing, you will have to be mindful that it may need repairs and extra care.
Having a perfect fit of a dress can sometimes make all the difference. Celebrities get their dresses altered so that it fits their body shape perfectly. This little trick will come in handy if you get your dress altered by a professional because you'll also feel comfortable in the gown all night.
When you are storing your dress make sure you have it in a garment bag so it can't get ruined by the hem catching in cupboard doors or from being crushed by other garments.
Keep a stain removal pen handy on formal night if you don't trust that you'll be able to keep clean! There are some things that need to be dry cleaned straight away when a stain happens:
Coke
Fake Tan
Mud
Lipstick
Foundation/Makeup
Deoderant
Perspiration
Shoe Polish
And remember, nothing can come in contact with silk, not even water!
Some dry cleaners can also clean handbags and shoes.
