Formal Day Preparation: Things You May Not Have Considered!

It’s formal night and you’re frantically making sure everything is organised for the big night ahead. Your hair and makeup is done and you’re rushing to the pre-party (because your hair appointment took half an hour longer than what the hairdresser said it would) and you’re almost at your formal. But then disaster strikes!

You discover you’ve forgotten your ID to get into the after party and your feet are already getting blisters from the 3-inch heels you’re wearing! Ahhhhhh!

Don’t let this happen to you! Here are some tips to help keep your big night stress free...

Tip 1: You find out too late that you need ID or an invitation to the formal or after party.

Solution: Remember to put your ID or invite into the clutch or handbag you’re taking so you don’t forget them.

Tip 2: You’ve had your hair done. Your makeup looks perfect. Now to put your dress on. But wait! You wore a t-shirt whilst you had your hair and face done, but now you can’t get it off over your head without destroying your hair of makeup!

Solution: Wear a button up shirt – it will ensure your hair and makeup will still look perfect when you’re ready to get dressed.

Tip 3: You forgot to get your nails done ahead of time so you’ve rushed to get them done and now you’re drying them with the hairdryer as you wait for your date to arrive

Solution: Do your nails the night before or early that morning. Even if you do forget, to cut down on time, after you’ve done your hands only paint the toenails that can be seen if you’re wearing peep toes, no one else will know!

Tip 4: The night is going great but the day is catching up with you. You have blisters on your feet, a headache from your hair being over coiffed (to perfection) and you’ve spotted a busted seam on your dress!

Solution: Make up a small emergency kit to keep in your clutch. Having Panadol, band-aids, one of those tiny travelling sewing kits or safety pins, bobby pins and chewing gum (for that goodnight kiss) will help you if disaster strikes.

Tip 5: Don’t let your big night stress you out!

Solution: Your formal is your night to shine and share a brilliant night with the people in your year level. So if you get a headache, or blisters on your heels, simply ask for help, don’t let it worry you.

Even if something does go wrong, if your fake tan smears or you trip over walking onto the stage, try and remember it’s simply another memory to add to the tales of your formal night. Although it may not be the memory you wanted, it will make the story of your big night more interesting and entertaining for you and your friends over the years ahead!
