Dress shopping online

28 October 2011 by admin in Beauty, Formal Planning, Homepage, Latest, Uncategorized

As the weather heats up, so too are formal fashions across the country. Last week four Tasmanian schools celebrated perfect weather for their end-of-year formals by busting out colourful cocktail dresses for the ladies and brightly coloured ties for the boys. Further north, students are planning to wear brightly coloured gowns and diamante bling to their formals on the sunshine coast.

But when everyone’s busting out bright colours in an attempt to stand out from the crowd, how do you create a truly individual look for yourself without breaking the bank? We asked Danielle Faulkner from My Boutique for some tips on how to ensure you stand out from the crowd on your big night…

“Every girl wants to look her best at her formal, to stand out amongst all the other girls, but trying to pull together an outfit that’s truly unique can be too expensive for many,” she said. “This is why online dress shopping is becoming more popular, it’s why I launched My-Boutique, to offer a range of gorgeous handmade dresses and accessories that are affordable.”

Danielle says that shopping for dresses online can save you hundreds of dollars if you follow some simple rules, so if you’d like to take charge of creating your own formal fashions for less then here’s are a couple of things to consider.

STYLE & COLOUR

Choosing a dress style that suits your body shape is the most important aspect of planning a dress for your formal.  For some useful tips on dressing for your body shape, this article is a great starting point.

When it comes to choosing a colour that suits your complexion, the fastest way to see what colours work well on you is to spend some time looking at photos of yourself to see which colours best compliment your skin and hair. Then, when you have some ideas about which colours you prefer, run them past a BFF for some honest feedback.

Another option is to download the free iFrockUp app to your iPhone so you can take photos that you can share with all your friends via Facebook for their feedback.

SIZING

The most important part of buying a dress online is getting your measurements right.  Online dress stores will usually have sizing charts (like the one below) that you should always check to make sure their sizes and your expectations match. It’s vital that you confirm exact measurements of particular dress styles before you order.

Size 8 10 12 14 16
Bust 88 93 98 103 108
Waist 65 70 75 80 85
Hips 94 99 104 109 114

TIMING

Different online dress stores will have varying delivery times which can range from a few days for the dress to arrive via express post or around a week if its coming by snail mail. Be sure to check out their delivery options and don’t leave ordering your dress until too late so you don’t get caught out.

Final thoughts…

Taking the time to shop around online to find a dress style and colour to suit you for your formal is a great way to stand out from the crowd, and if your formal budget is limited then this is a great option that can save you a small fortune.
